Our Family Vacation at Beaches Turks and Caicos - part 1

Posted on Fri , May 23, 2014

Beaches Turks Caicos Family1Hi! I'm The Sand Girl. My Mommy and my Gigi are The Sand Ladies. I'm 3 years old. This is my brother's first trip to Beaches Turks and Caicos. And I was just a baby when I was here before.

Beaches Turks and CaicosYesterday, I got to fly on an airplane. But today was SO fun. We had breakfast by the ocean at Bayside. My mom says I'm kind of grumpy when I'm hungry. My brother and I love the fresh fruit here!

After breakfast, we went to the pool. Our butler Randy set up this cool cabana by the pool for us. My Mommy says we have a butler because that makes it a vacation for her too!

Beaches Turks Caicos Family3 Beaches Turks Caicos Family4

Then we all went for a swim. I can swim all by myself! My brother likes to play by himself in the shallow areas of the pool.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family5

We got to swim for a LONG time! Then we went to the Sesame Kids Camp for Super Grover's Super Science Fair. We dug in the sand to find treasures. I blew bubbles with Bert, too. I love playing bubbles! Did you know Bert loves playing bubbles, too?!

We were hungry after all that science!! And do you know what?! When we got back to our cabanda, Randy brought us all kinds of snacks!

Beaches Turks Caicos Family11

We even had a cookie and some milk before nap time. Did you know Cookie Monster makes the cookies here?! My Daddy closed the sides of the cabana so we could take our nap by the pool!

Beaches Turks Caicos Family13He is SO silly!

I loved napping by the pool, too. Our cabana even has a fan in it!

Beaches Turks Caicos Family12 Beaches Turks Caicos Family14

And my Mommy and Daddy rested by the pool, too. That's the shallow baby pool in the front, and a HUGE hottub on the far left.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family15

You just SWIM up to this place, and you can sit on a stool in the water, and they give you whatever you want to drink! I like strawberry slushies.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family16

After my nap, I swam a little more in the baby pool with some other kids while my brother was still sleeping.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family17

Then it was time for my Gigi and the rest of our family to get here! I am SO excited to show Ubbah (he's my uncle) and Mammaw where Big Bird is!

Beaches Turks Caicos18 Beaches Turks Caicos Family19

While they were unpacking, my brother and I got Tatoos! I got to pick mine out. It is a mermaid.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family20 Beaches Turks Caicos Family21

My brother is tough like Daddy.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family22

We ate a yummy dinner with all of the family, and then we went to Big Bird's Beach party!! It was SO much fun! We got to see ALL of the Sesame Street friends. We dance and sang. It was pretty much the most fun night ever.

If you want to come visit Big Bird, you can just push that button below to contact my Mommy and my Gigi and find out how.

Goodnight!!

Don't miss part 2 of our family adventure!

SCUBA Diving is included at Sandals and Beaches Resorts

Posted on Mon , Apr 07, 2014

The water sports program at each of the 15 Sandals Resorts and 3 Beaches Resorts operates a National Geographic Dive Center and PADI five-star operations. The 18 resorts offer 510 spectacular dive sites throughout the Caribbean and are a part of the renowned Divers Alert Network (DAN), the most recognized dive safety organization in the world.

These luxury all-inclusive resorts provide a safe and fun environment for SCUBA divers of all levels.

Jamaica

Example Dive:
Throne Room - The entrance is a fairly wide but low cavern, with a crack in the reef about 25ft. long and 8 ft. wide. When using the entrance you need to be really careful not to damage the coral around the opening. The walls on the inside are covered with colorful sponges. The bottom is covered with fine sediments which when disturbed will immediately reduce the visibility. Leaving the throne room, you swim through a large opening forming a window of sorts; coming into the deeper reef at 70ft. this window provides great photo opportunities.
Skill Level: Novice
Avg Depth: 40ft
Max Depth: 70ft

Nassau, Bahamas

Example Dive:
Shipyard - You can investigate not one, but three of the best wrecks in the Caribbean Sea at the Shipyard. This nautical graveyard is home to three freighters resting at a depth of eighty-five feet. The abandoned vessels resting in close vicinity gives the area a supernatural feel. But just when you think you are approaching a series of lifeless vessel shells, a massive school of silversides will swarm through the scene, shifting away from the pursuit of predators like the Barracuda, the African Pompano, or the Schoolmaster. These are 3 wrecks down for about 20+ years: 1 Oil Tanker and 2 Mail Boats.
Skill Level: Advanced
Avg. Depth: 90ft

Example Dive:
Sandals Wall - Sharks, barracudas, stingrays, jacks, snappers, dolphins and a variety of tropical fish seen in this area. Starts at about 50ft

St. Lucia

Example Dive:
Virgin Cove - patches of coral and eventually more defined structures of reef. This semicircular reef/wall is a richly diverse coral reef structure displaying both hard and soft corals. Shaped like a figure "9", maximum depth is around 70 ft/21 m. There are lots of large barrel sponges, brain coral and occasionally stingrays. Schools of snappers, grunts and Atlantic spade fish as well as turtles and barracudas are frequent residents of this reef, especially at the 60 ft/70 ft level.
Skill Level: Novice
Avg Depth: 30ft
Distance from Shore: 20 min

Scube Dive Nassau Bahamas included resized 600

Antigua

Example Dive:
Mary Kay Reef - This is a very nice reef to navigate. This site is filled with an abundance of soft coral heads that brings lots of marine life, Also a spur and grove site with small ledges and undercuts. Lobsters, barracudas and lots of small fish are usually present. The occasional turtle and stingray put in an appearance.
Skill Level: Novice
Avg Depth: 45ft

 scuba dive included resized 600

Grenada

Example Dive:
Bianca C - The Bianca C a 600 ft. cruise ship sank in 1961. A fire in the boiler room occurred just as she was anchoring in St. Georges Harbour. She, however, still makes a brilliant advanced wreck dive. No penetration is possible, but the shear size and scope alone make it exceptional. You can swim into the ships swimming pool at about 130 ft. and then continue to the bow. One often sees schools of horse eyed jacks as well as large barracuda. The occasional large shark is seen as well as large eagle rays. This wreck is flanked by Whibbles reef, which is south about 150 yards.
Skill Level: Master
Max Depth: 135ft

Scuba dive turks and caicos included resized 600

Turks and Caicos

Example Dive:
Graceland: This site has a large sand chute under the dive boat and a swim-through leading to the wall at 50ft. The wall has many buttresses and indentations with a good possibility of reef sharks swimming in the depths off the wall.
Skill Level: Novice
Max Depth: 50ft

The example dives above are just a tiny sample of what is available through the Sandals and Beaches SCUBA program. Each resort has many dive sites in the novice and advanced skill levels. And even a few advanced dives. Night dives can be scheduled at an additiona fee on most resorts. If you would like to see a more comprehensive list of dives by island, please Contact Us

Each of the resorts offers multiple levels of certification courses. For guests who are not certified divers, the Sandals Resort Program is a very popular option. If you've always wanted to experience SCUBA but never had the time it takes to get certified, Sandals can qualify you to dive at the resort in just a few hours. This PADI Discover Scuba Diver program is only $90 per person and you will be able to dive, in most cases, the same day as your program, and be able to dive throughout your stay at our Sandals Resort.

Certified divers may enjoy acheiving an advanced certification during their stay. Multiple advanced PADI certifications are available.

Diving in the Caribbean can cost $200+ per day just for the dive. Why not take your next dive vacation with Sandals or Beaches where up to two tanks per day are included? Dive groups with 5 or more rooms also receive incentives and discounts.

Destination Wedding: Jessica and Justin's Intimate Island Nuptials (part 2 of 2)

Posted on Mon , Oct 21, 2013

Jessica and Justin got married at Sandals La Toc on September 17. More on their intimate beach wedding in St. Lucia here

St Lucia beach wedding

Then began the honeymoon of their dreams in St. Lucia.

One of the most exciting things about a destination wedding at Sandals is that your honeymoon starts the moment you say, "I do." Jessica and Justin enjoyed their first meal as a married couple at La Toc restaurant, which serves authentic French Cuisine with white glove service at dinner.

La Toc restaurant

Jessica describes Justin as a "meat and potatoes" kind of guy. She was ecstatic that he absolutely loved his very sophisticated meal at La Toc. After a very romantic dinner, the honeymooners returned to their suite to find that their butler team had drawn a bubble bath, iced some champagne and decorated to celebrate their marriage.

Jessica and Justin stayed in a dreamy honeymoon suite - the Sunset Bluff Honeymoon Oceanfront One Bedroom Butler Villa Suite with Private Pool. These signature LoveNest suites sit atop La Toc's romantic Sunset Bluff and offer unrivaled views of the sunset over the ocean from their private pool.

St Lucia Honeymoon suite

Of course the newlyweds spent time taking in the scenic views from their private pool, and Justin even discovered a new favorite local beer. When its all included, you're free to try new things! More on Sandals Discovery Dining program here

Jessica took this picture of the Sunset Bluff from Sandals La Toc's beach.

Sandals La Toc Sunset Bluff

St. Lucia is a beautiful, adventurous island. I alway recommend that clients traveling to St. Lucia book at least one tour to see more of the island. Jessica and Justin went on and all day excursion that allowed them to explore some of St. Lucia's rich history in a fishing village by the sea, view the world-famous Pitons, discover tropical waterfalls and bathe in the mineral-rich Sulfur Springs mud baths.

Jessica and Justin's tips to St. Lucia Honeymooners

- What NOT to miss: "Stay at one - Play at three. There are three Sandals resorts in St. Lucia, and they are just a short ride on Sandals included transfer to visit each one. La Toc was no question the perfect resort for us. Thank you Kali! But we loved dinner at Gordon's on the Pier at Sandals Grande St. Lucian. The food was fabulous and the over-the-water dinning experience was so romantic."

- What I would have changed: "Bring a 'throw away' swim suit for the mud baths. The sulfur stained Justin's suit kind of orange. totally worth it, but next time I would bring and old suit that I don't plan to bring home."

Destination Wedding: Jessica and Justin's Intimate Island Nuptials (part 1 of 2)

Posted on Mon , Oct 07, 2013

Real Destination Wedding

When I first started working with Jessica and Justin, they wanted to plan a honeymoon in Jamaica or St. Lucia. They dreamed of a romantic getaway with a nice mix of relaxation and island adventure, and they wanted a special honeymoon suite. I made a couple recommendations on each island to suit their requirements and explained the major differences between the rooms and resorts that I was suggesting so they could make a final decision.

As sometimes happens, when next I spoke with Jessica, the couple had become slightly overwhelmed by the prospect of planning a traditional, local wedding with lots of family and friends to please. She wanted to know more about the Sandals WeddingMoon®, which is a destination wedding + honeymoon all in one package. I told Jessica that because they were already planning a 6 night honeymoon, they could add the Wedding to the Moon at no additional cost, and I would lead her through each painless step of planning the ceremony and reception. After consulting with Justin, the decision for an intimate island wedding was made, and after a 2 hour lunch date, we had planned their destination wedding and honeymoon at Sandals Regency La Toc in St. Lucia.

I always recommend that honeymooners - and especially those getting married on resort - book one of Sandals Love Nest Suites. These suites are Sandals most romantic, intimate accommodations, and staying in a Love Nest Suite makes for a very special, unique honeymoon experience. Jessica and Justin chose the Sunset Bluff Honeymoon Oceanfront One Bedroom Butler Villa Suite with Private Pool at Sandals Regency La Toc.

St Lucia Sunset Bluff Honeymoon Suite1 resized 600

This room boasts one of my all-time favorite views in the Caribbean - enjoyable from your own private plunge pool. Sitting atop Sunset Bluff, this suite has a beautifully decorated separate living room and bedroom with plenty of space. The veranda is large and the view of the ocean and the sunset is stunning. Open the sliding glass doors in your bedroom to enjoy these romantic views right from your four poster king size bed. Stone floors, mahogany furnishings, and vaulted ceilings make these suites cozy and inviting.

St Lucia Sunset Bluff Honeymoon Suite2 resized 600

St Lucia Sunset Bluff Honeymoon Suite3 resized 600
I always make sure my WeddingMoons couples receive VIP treatment. Upon arrival in St. Lucia, Jessica and Justin were driven by a private driver and luxury sedan from the airport to the resort. Their personal butler met their car at the resort and escorted them directly to their honeymoon suite. The next day, they met with their on-resort wedding coordinator who confirmed the details of the wedding ceremony and reception. They had a champagne cake tasting and selected a cake flavor. A local attorney met with them in the resort wedding office to finalize the legal marriage documents. The wedding coordinator took them on a full tour of the resort grounds, and Jessica made the final decision to hold the ceremony in the wedding gazebo overlooking the beach. Then, they were off to relax and play until it was time for their wedding, which was scheduled for 4pm two day later.

Each island does has its own legal documentation and residency requirements for weddings. St. Lucia requires the bride and groom arrive on the island 3 business days before there wedding ceremony. However, as in the case of Jessica and Justin's wedding, the couple may choose to pay a documentation expedition fee in order to get married sooner. But as Jessica would tell you, don't fret about the details! Contact The Sand Lady to take care of all of these things for you. It is my job to know the details and present  you with the options.

Real Destination Wedding JJ1 resized 600 Real Destination Wedding JJ2 resized 600

On the wedding day, Jessica had her hair and makeup done in the spa on resort. She said this was a great way to relax before the wedding. Her partial up-do was beautiful, and she was happy to see that the spa used makeup products by MAC. Once her hair and makeup were complete, her female butler Trisha drove her back to the suite to get dressed. Jessica was happy that Trisha was there to help her with her bridal gown. Before the wedding, as they got to know their butler team of Trisha and Sydney, Jessica and Justin decided to ask that they stand as witnesses to their marriage.

Jessica and Justin's wedding theme is the Beautiful Beginnings complimentary wedding ceremony and champagne reception. They also used Sandals in-house photography and videography services.

Jessica's Tips to Brides
- What NOT to miss: "Sandals Personal Butler Service was absolutely amazing. I was SO GLAD we had this for our destination wedding. It made everything so relaxed and stress-free on the wedding day, especially."
- What I would have changed: "Justin said he was kind of nervous and anxious waiting for wedding time. I was in the spa - all relaxed. He was hanging out by himself. He is not a spa guy. If your groom would enjoy a massage, then I'd say schedule that for that time that you're apart before the wedding. For him, if I'd realized this would be the case, I would have just gone ahead and scheduled the wedding to be earlier in the day. When you're planning your wedding, you might be thinking more along the wedding time of a traditional, local wedding. Once you're on island time, there is not much difference between 11am and 4pm!"

Asian cuisines are all about harmony and balance, but each different cuisine accomplishes this in its own singular way. Whether finicky or adventurous, bold or timid, hearty or healthy, there is an Asian cuisine to suit every approach to dining - and Sandals offers them all. In Thai cuisine, achieving the perfect flavor for any dish relies upon a balance of four basic tastes: sour, bitter, sweet and salty. Intricate fruit and vegetable carvings add the finishing touch to Asia's most elaborately decorated plates. Clean, natural, unspiced flavors define Asia's most healthful cuisine, Japanese.
