The Sand Lady Named Top 10 Agency by Sandals and Beaches Resorts

Posted on Fri , Aug 26, 2016

Each December Sandals Resorts celebrates their relationship with travel agents. The 14th annual Sandals Travel Agency Recognition (STAR) awards was held on December 4th at Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica.

A total of 450 travel agents, guests, VIPs and media from North America, U.K., Canada and Latin America traveled to Jamaica’s south coat where Sandals recognized this long standing relationship and yearly achievements.

The Sand Lady from Royal Travel was honored to be recognized in multiple categories this year. Most notably, The Sand Lady was named to the list of Worldwide Top Ten Travel Agencies.

Our agency manager, Robbie Phillips received the Outstanding Sales Achievement award for destination weddings. The Chairman of Sandals Resorts also presented Robbie with the Chairman’s Award, which is given each year to one agent in the US who consistently embodies and represents the Sandals brand.

“We value the hard work of travel agents like Robbie, and take the opportunity to commend them as they are essential in bringing the Sandals Resorts’ and Beaches Resorts’ vacation experiences to life for their clients,” said Gordon “Butch” Stewart, Chairman of Sandals Resort International. “Robbie is an extension of our Sandals Resorts family and because of her dedication in exceeding customer expectations, we are able to provide guests with the vacation of their dreams and the experience of a lifetime.”

My Special Delivery for Sandals Whitehouse

Posted on Fri , Dec 11, 2015

I have been blessed with the most amazing clients over the years. A couple years ago I got to plan a very special Sandals vacation for a local barber. He loved Sandals Whitehouse so much that for months afterwards, men walked into our agency on a weekly basis with fresh haircuts asking about a Sandals vacation.

One of those men was Don. He and his wife Sue were new to the area and had not ever vacationed at an all inclusive resort. The barber sat Don down in his chair and handed him his phone so that he could look over his vacation photos while he told him all about it. I think we booked Don and Sue for their first  trip to Sandals Whitehouse that same day.

SWH1.jpg

During their first visit to Whitehouse, Don and Sue enjoyed people watching from the patio area of Cafe de Paris - Sandals coffee house and pastry shop. Don and Sue don’t drink. But they love the social atmosphere of an adults-only all inclusive resort. They appreciate the personalized service that Sandals offers. That week they also made friends with a very special employee named Odane in the gift shop.

SWHCafedeParis.jpg

Don and Sue were hooked. They visited two more Sandals properties within just over a year. For their fourth Sandals trip, they decided to return to Sandals Whitehouse. Upon arriving in Whitehouse, they found that Odane had been promoted to the on-resort jewelry store. They learned how he was a self-taught musician, and he plays bass in the Mento band with his dad. The band performs twice per week on resort for the guests during dinner time. Don and Sue were highly impressed with his musical ability. After his shift one day he stopped in at his church to record himself playing the piano because they wanted to hear more of his music. During their conversations, Odane mentioned that he would like to learn to play the saxophone.

When they arrived home, Don and Sue decided to buy a saxophone for Odane. They came to my office to ask about shipping it to Jamaica. I knew this would not be an option as customs can be very complicated, and my first inclination was to tell them they’d just have to book a trip back to Whitehouse! Then I remembered that I would be headed to that resort for the annual Sandals Travel Agents Recognition awards shortly. So I offered to take the saxophone to Odane on their behalf. I am so glad I did.

Don and Sue recorded a heartfelt message for their friend:

... and I headed off to sunny Jamaica, saxophone in hand.

Special_Delivery_Whitehouse.jpg

When we arrived on resort for the STAR awards, our agenda was jam packed. We missed our first opportunity to meet with Odane while he was working. When we asked about his schedule we found he would not be at work again before our short trip ended. But his manager called him, and he graciously offered to come meet us on his day off.

I immediately knew why Don and Sue had come to love Odane. He is a kind, gracious, appreciative young man. He is the epitome of the Jamaican culture - perpetually happy with a magnetic smile. I tell clients all the time that Jamaicans are the happiest people in the world.

So we showed Odane the message from Don and Sue:

Odane.png

Then we gave him the saxophone:

IMG_5273.jpg

He was speechless. And overwhelmed with gratitude.

What a special moment. I am so thankful to have been able to make this special delivery to Whitehouse. I told him to let me know once he learned to play his saxophone - clearly, it won’t take long! I can’t wait to book him as the saxophone player for my destination weddings in Whitehouse!! But even more so, I’m so happy to have another Jamaican friend.

Here’s to you, Odane! Merry Christmas, friend. And to Don and Sue, thank you for your kindness and for allowing me to be part of this special moment.

Romantic Secluded Swim-Up Suites and more at Sandals Royal Bahamian

Posted on Tue , Sep 23, 2014

There are several new and updated features of Sandals Royal Bahamian that I wanted to update you on after our recent stay. The most exciting is the addition of Sandals signature Crystal Lagoon swim-up suites! But let's not get ahead of ourselves...

I LOVE flying in to Nassau, Bahamas. The view from the plane of all the little out islands of the Bahamas is just gorgeous.

Sandals Royal Bahamian Arrival1

Sandals Royal Bahamian Arrival2

Sandals Royal Bahamian Arrival3

The Nassau airport is new and modern. Once you have claimed your bags and completed a short immigration process, you will easily find the brand new Sandals arrivals lounge in the airport.

Sandals Royal Bahamian Arrival4

A friendly face will greet you, take your bags, and let you know when your transfer to the resort is ready. This usually takes just a few minutes, and the ride to the resort is only about 10 minutes. But if you do have a few extra moments in the airport, you might enjoy seeing a familiar brand at the coffee shop.

Sandals Royal Bahamian Arrival5

At the end of your stay, you will also be able to clear US customs in the Nassau airport before actually leaving the island. This can save tons of time and hassle once you arrive stateside.

Nassau is extremely friendly for those who have not traveled as much or who simply prefer a more familiar culture. Don't get me wrong, the Bahamians have their own unique style and culture, but they do appreciate American brands and experiences more so than some of the other islands in the Caribbean.

Now on to the resort. Did you want to be treated like a queen or a king for the week?

Sandals Royal Bahamian Treated like a queen

The plush thrones in one of the small wading pools are unique and cute. But they really are a snapshot of the playful, royal style of this resort. No one takes themselves too seriously here, but the service and the food is absolutely top notch.

Just on the other side of this wading pool is one of my favorite places to hang out - one of the two swim-up pool bars on this resort.

The Balmoral Tower has recently been totally refurbished. I've already shared some of the updates in a previous blog here. I specifically want to show you the walk-out rooms available on the first floor of the all new Balmoral Tower.

Sandals Royal Bahamian Balmoral Tower

The beach front walk out rooms have these romantic fire pits just steps from your private patio. The fire pits come alive after sunset and make a cozy gathering area to socialize to stargaze together.

Sandals Royal Bahamian Balmoral Tower Firepits

Around the corner of the building from the beach front walk-out rooms are the Zen Garden walk-out rooms. Sandals Royal Bahamian Balmoral Tower Zen Garden walkout1

While these rooms do not have the view of the beach from their private patio, they do still have a private sitting area on the patio and a personal sunning area in the Zen garden. These will satisfy a more restrictive budget.

Sandals Royal Bahamian Balmoral Tower Zen Garden walkout2

This gorgeous, quiet end of the beach is just steps away from the Balmoral walk-out rooms as well.

Sandals Royal Bahamian Balmoral Tower beach1

This is the quieter, less frequented end of the beach on this resort. How about a dinner by candle light or a couples massage at the end of this pier?

Sandals Royal Bahamian blue water

Sandals Royal Bahamian never feels crowded. Here is a spot for sunning right in the middle of the beach on the main area of the resort. The water is always so blue in Nassau. This is also the perfect spot for a beach wedding with a gorgeous backdrop.

Sandals Royal Bahamian Nassau Bahamas all inclusive blue water

Sandals Royal Bahamian now boasts an enormous penthouse fitness center with the absolute best view from an elliptical trainer that I've ever seen.

Sandals Royal Bahamian Fitness Center gym with view

On the opposite side of the resort from the Balmoral Tower sits the Windsor Block where many of the other guest rooms are located. The rooms of the Windsor Block have also been recently updated. Most notably, Sandals has added their signature Crystal Lagoon swim-up suites, which have previously been found at Sandals Negril, Sandals Royal Caribbean and Sandals Grande St. Lucian.

Sandals Royal Bahamian swim up suite1

These first floor suites feature private entrances to the Crystal Lagoon pool. On this resort, the Crystal Lagoon pool is fairy secluded from the rest of the resort. You will have lots of privacy in these tranquil suites.

Sandals Royal Bahamian swim up suite3

You will also experience the highest level of pampering when you stay in one of these luxurious honeymoon suites as they come with Sandals exclusive Personal Butler Service as well. How about champagne breakfast on your private patio overlooking the sparkling Crystal Lagoon pool followed by a refreshing swim to start the day?

Sandals Royal Bahamian swim up suite2

The other rooms in the Windsor Block have also been recently updated to the highest standards. These more entry level rooms offer lots of space and plenty of extra amenities.

Our Family Vacation at Beaches Turks and Caicos - part 1

Posted on Fri , May 23, 2014

Beaches Turks Caicos Family1Hi! I'm The Sand Girl. My Mommy and my Gigi are The Sand Ladies. I'm 3 years old. This is my brother's first trip to Beaches Turks and Caicos. And I was just a baby when I was here before.

Beaches Turks and CaicosYesterday, I got to fly on an airplane. But today was SO fun. We had breakfast by the ocean at Bayside. My mom says I'm kind of grumpy when I'm hungry. My brother and I love the fresh fruit here!

After breakfast, we went to the pool. Our butler Randy set up this cool cabana by the pool for us. My Mommy says we have a butler because that makes it a vacation for her too!

Beaches Turks Caicos Family3 Beaches Turks Caicos Family4

Then we all went for a swim. I can swim all by myself! My brother likes to play by himself in the shallow areas of the pool.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family5

We got to swim for a LONG time! Then we went to the Sesame Kids Camp for Super Grover's Super Science Fair. We dug in the sand to find treasures. I blew bubbles with Bert, too. I love playing bubbles! Did you know Bert loves playing bubbles, too?!

Beaches Turks Caicos Family9 Beaches Turks Caicos Family6

Beaches Turks Caicos Family10

We were hungry after all that science!! And do you know what?! When we got back to our cabanda, Randy brought us all kinds of snacks!

Beaches Turks Caicos Family11

We even had a cookie and some milk before nap time. Did you know Cookie Monster makes the cookies here?! My Daddy closed the sides of the cabana so we could take our nap by the pool!

Beaches Turks Caicos Family13He is SO silly!

I loved napping by the pool, too. Our cabana even has a fan in it!

Beaches Turks Caicos Family12 Beaches Turks Caicos Family14

And my Mommy and Daddy rested by the pool, too. That's the shallow baby pool in the front, and a HUGE hottub on the far left.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family15

You just SWIM up to this place, and you can sit on a stool in the water, and they give you whatever you want to drink! I like strawberry slushies.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family16

After my nap, I swam a little more in the baby pool with some other kids while my brother was still sleeping.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family17

Then it was time for my Gigi and the rest of our family to get here! I am SO excited to show Ubbah (he's my uncle) and Mammaw where Big Bird is!

Beaches Turks Caicos18 Beaches Turks Caicos Family19

While they were unpacking, my brother and I got Tatoos! I got to pick mine out. It is a mermaid.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family20 Beaches Turks Caicos Family21

My brother is tough like Daddy.

Beaches Turks Caicos Family22

We ate a yummy dinner with all of the family, and then we went to Big Bird's Beach party!! It was SO much fun! We got to see ALL of the Sesame Street friends. We dance and sang. It was pretty much the most fun night ever.

SCUBA Diving is included at Sandals and Beaches Resorts

Posted on Mon , Apr 07, 2014

The water sports program at each of the 15 Sandals Resorts and 3 Beaches Resorts operates a National Geographic Dive Center and PADI five-star operations. The 18 resorts offer 510 spectacular dive sites throughout the Caribbean and are a part of the renowned Divers Alert Network (DAN), the most recognized dive safety organization in the world.

These luxury all-inclusive resorts provide a safe and fun environment for SCUBA divers of all levels.

Jamaica

Example Dive:
Throne Room - The entrance is a fairly wide but low cavern, with a crack in the reef about 25ft. long and 8 ft. wide. When using the entrance you need to be really careful not to damage the coral around the opening. The walls on the inside are covered with colorful sponges. The bottom is covered with fine sediments which when disturbed will immediately reduce the visibility. Leaving the throne room, you swim through a large opening forming a window of sorts; coming into the deeper reef at 70ft. this window provides great photo opportunities.
Skill Level: Novice
Avg Depth: 40ft
Max Depth: 70ft

Nassau, Bahamas

Example Dive:
Shipyard - You can investigate not one, but three of the best wrecks in the Caribbean Sea at the Shipyard. This nautical graveyard is home to three freighters resting at a depth of eighty-five feet. The abandoned vessels resting in close vicinity gives the area a supernatural feel. But just when you think you are approaching a series of lifeless vessel shells, a massive school of silversides will swarm through the scene, shifting away from the pursuit of predators like the Barracuda, the African Pompano, or the Schoolmaster. These are 3 wrecks down for about 20+ years: 1 Oil Tanker and 2 Mail Boats.
Skill Level: Advanced
Avg. Depth: 90ft

Example Dive:

Example Dive:
Virgin Cove - patches of coral and eventually more defined structures of reef. This semicircular reef/wall is a richly diverse coral reef structure displaying both hard and soft corals. Shaped like a figure "9", maximum depth is around 70 ft/21 m. There are lots of large barrel sponges, brain coral and occasionally stingrays. Schools of snappers, grunts and Atlantic spade fish as well as turtles and barracudas are frequent residents of this reef, especially at the 60 ft/70 ft level.
Skill Level: Novice
Avg Depth: 30ft
Distance from Shore: 20 min

Scube Dive Nassau Bahamas included resized 600

Antigua

Example Dive:
Mary Kay Reef - This is a very nice reef to navigate. This site is filled with an abundance of soft coral heads that brings lots of marine life, Also a spur and grove site with small ledges and undercuts. Lobsters, barracudas and lots of small fish are usually present. The occasional turtle and stingray put in an appearance.
Skill Level: Novice
Avg Depth: 45ft

 scuba dive included resized 600

Grenada

Example Dive:
Bianca C - The Bianca C a 600 ft. cruise ship sank in 1961. A fire in the boiler room occurred just as she was anchoring in St. Georges Harbour. She, however, still makes a brilliant advanced wreck dive. No penetration is possible, but the shear size and scope alone make it exceptional. You can swim into the ships swimming pool at about 130 ft. and then continue to the bow. One often sees schools of horse eyed jacks as well as large barracuda. The occasional large shark is seen as well as large eagle rays. This wreck is flanked by Whibbles reef, which is south about 150 yards.
